MODOT Puts I-44 Back on Fast Track

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) completed emergency pavement repair work on June 6 on I-44 from I-270 to I-55.

Working with contractors Micro-Surfacing, Inc., and Gaines Construction, Inc., MODOT  addressed pavement delamination related to the creation of additional lanes that were put in place to relieve traffic displaced by the I-64 reconstruction.

Crews will return at a future date to be determined for miscellaneous clean up and touch up work on restriping, with minor impacts to traffic.

I-44 RepavingSections of the interstate were experiencing raveling where striping was removed to add an additional lane. The asphalt patch that was applied to the rumble strips and median lanes were peeling off the pavement.

From I-270 to Murdoch, was done by Micro-Surfacing, Inc. to repair the pavement raveling. The repair is a two-foot-wide asphalt sealing along the areas of I-44 where striping was removed.  The work was done Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

East from Murdoch to I-55 the work was done by Gaines Construction. The  pavement repair included the removal of seven-foot sections of peeling asphalt, primarily in the median lanes and the shoulder lanes. The work was done by Gaines Construction at night, Monday thru Friday from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m..

The entire section of I-44 from I-270 to I-55 will be re-surfaced in 2010. The lanes will be returned to four lanes each way with shoulders.
