Book Features Trivers Old Post Office Work

The recently released Retrospective of Courthouse Design, 2001 - 2010, Third Edition features Trivers Associates/Architects' design of the St. Louis Old Post Office and, more specifically, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District that it houses. The book, published by the National Center for State Courts, showcases notable courthouse designs and renovations completed between 2001 and 2010 from around the U.S.

Old Post OfficeTrivers' renovation and adaptive reuse of the late-1800s building, rated the 6th most historic building owned by the federal government, uncovered and rehabilitated original architectural features that had been covered during the building's 100-plus years of use. At the same time, Trivers upgraded the building's systems to current standards and incorporated the specialized, state-of-the-art spaces and security the Missouri Court of Appeals requires. The book praises the building's "beautifully ornate, sumptuous interiors that combine fine materials and craftsmanship with dramatic space."

Along with the Missouri Court of Appeals, the building houses Webster University's downtown St. Louis campus and the St. Louis Business Journal, along with other occupants.

Andrew Trivers, AIA, Trivers' president, said, "It was exciting to return the building to its original grandeur. We took great care to make the space fit the functional and security needs of the Eastern District Court, while at the same time respecting the building's history and significance."
