2009 IBC STRENGTH DESIGN: OUT-OF-PLANE LOADS

This seminar is the first of a two part design example.  This month, John Harris will consider a typical masonry wall panel with a window opening, loaded with out-of plane loads, and designed per the 2009 strength design method. The discussion will include an update to the strength design out-of-plane code provisions, and the design of the following: non-jamb wall segments, jamb wall segments, masonry lintel, and the sill wall segment below the opening. Next month the same wall panel will be analyzed for in-plane loads.
