David Stone, director of facilities for Webster University for the past 14 years, has accepted a position as assistant vice president for facilities at Governors State University (GSU), 30 miles south of downtown Chicago. Stone resigned his position in Webster in September.
"GSU was chartered in the late 1960s as an upper division school where students who wanted to continue beyond their Associates degree could pursue a Bachelors. As they start their fifth decade the mission is being expanded to admit lower division students. This presents a daunting number of challenges, some of which relate to facilities," Stone said. "As luck would have it we addressed many of the same issues — student housing, library growth, student life needs, modernization of academic spaces and infrastructure — during my tenure at Webster University."
While at Webster Stone oversaw the Emerson Library, Garden Park Plaza, the Loretto-Hilton Addition, the quadrangle, CMS/Music Hall, the new residence halls, the transformation of Loretto Hall into administrative offices, Maria Hall into modern residence space, and Webster Hall into a new admissions center. He was overseeing the work on the new 95,000 sq. ft. academic classroom building at the time of his resignation.
Stone was president of the St. Louis Chapter, AIA in 2009.
