Terracon has begun geotechnical engineering and laboratory services for the Missouri Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Project as part of the Missouri Bridge Partners design-build team. Terracon is the geotechnical consultant on the design contract and a subconsultant to Parsons Transportation Group. The Safe & Sound program will replace or rehabilitate 802 of Missouri's lowest-rated bridges, with at least one in every county, within the next five years. To complete the investigations, Terracon assembled a team of engineers and field technicians from its St. Louis, Columbia, Springfield and Kansas City, Mo., offices as well as the Bettendorf, Des Moines and Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, offices. "Our goal as a subconsultant is to provide reliable geotechnical data for the design-build team," said David Harwood, P.E., senior project principal. "Terracon's capabilities and resources are especially suited to the demands of a multi-site design-build project, which requires successfully responding to intensive workloads, deadlines and budgets."
Other major participants on the Missouri Bridge Partners team include: Zachry American Infrastructure, Fred Weber, Inc., Clarkson Construction, HNTB and Infrastructure Corporation of America. Total costs for the Safe & Sound program are estimated at $400 million to $600 million, and project completion is expected in October 2011.
