St. Louis ASCE Re-Dedicates River Des Peres as Civil Engineering Landmark

The officers and board of directors of the St. Louis Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) will hold a ceremony and reception Oct. 27 re-dedicating the River Des Peres Sewerage and Drainage Works as an ASCE National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
 
This River Des Peres was designed and constructed during 1924 to 1931 by the City of St. Louis, Department of Sewers and Paving under the direction of the President of the Board of Public Service.  City engineering staff, including W.W. Horner, served as Engineer-in-Charge and H. Shifrin was his Assistant.

River des PeresThe Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) became the owner of the River Des Peres facility along with other city sewers after the formation of MSD in 1954.
 
The Ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
 
The ceremony location is at 5050 Clayton Avenue just west of Kingshighway in Forest Park overlooking Jefferson Lake as shown on the attached map.  Parking is available on the south side of Clayton Avenue and on adjacent streets in the Park.
 

 A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony at the Cabanne House, 5300 Lindell at Union on the north edge of Forest Park.
