S.M. Wilson Closes KC Office

S. M. Wilson & Co. will close its Kansas City area office this summer, once it completes four local projects currently under construction. The company has experienced a shortage of available construction work, coupled with the recent cancellation or delay of several potential local projects in its pipeline.

All 10 employees at its Lenexa office will eventually be affected. There are also 10 additional employees associated with the remaining construction projects that will also be affected once those projects reach completion.

S. M. Wilson's Kansas City office posted $33.6 million in revenues in 2009. Since its inception in 2002, the office has generated a total of $236 million in construction and construction management revenues. Major projects have included the Macy's in Lee's Summit, three Sunrise Assisted Living Centers in Leawood, Overland Park and Lenexa, and the Kirkwood Building, Service Management Group's headquarters in the Crossroads District.

"We have had a very good experience working in the Kansas City market, and we're sorry to see this ending," said Scott Wilson, President of St. Louis-based S. M. Wilson. "There is just not enough business for us now or in the foreseeable future to continue our office operation in this market."

"We have developed a top-notch staff of highly qualified professionals in this office," said Greg King, vice president of S. M. Wilson's Kansas City office.
Projects currently being completed in the Kansas City area by S. M. Wilson include the Vitagraph Building renovation, the local BKD office, and enhancements to Olathe Medical Center and the Santa Marta senior living facility.
