SITE Presents Nine Scholarships

The SITE Improvement Association announced the 2011 scholarship recipients at its 11th annual scholarship awards dinner on April 13 at Spazio Westport.

Since the inception of its scholarship program in 2001, SITE Improvement Association's Industry Fund, known as the SITE Advancement Foundation (SAF) has awarded a total of $164,000 to 90 recipients. Recipients are selected by an independent panel based on academic achievement, financial needs and community involvement. Each student is sponsored by a SITE member company. SAF's scholarships are funded by contributions from contractor members through SITE's industry fund and voluntary contributions from associate members.

"We had a trememndous amount of difficulty selecting only nine recipients as all of our applicants this year were outstanding," said Jay Schultehenrich, SITE's executive director. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support higher education for these nine promising students through our scholarship program."

SITE awarded four $2,500 scholarships and five $1,500 scholarships.

Recipients of $2,500 scholarships included:

  • Nadia Armouti, sponsored by Sandberg, Phoenix & van Gontard, is a senior at Incarnate Word Academy. She plans to attend Harvard University and major in biochemistry.
  • Sandberg, Phoenix & van Gontard also sponsored Belleville West senior, Evan Bruce. He plans to attend Truman State and study art education.
  • A senior at Pike County R-III (Compton) School District, Madeline Elliot plans to major in health science at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is sponsored by Leritz Contracting.
  • Kelsi Feltz, sponsored by Sandberg, Phoenix & von Gontard, is a freshman at Saint Louis University where she studies community health. She also received a $2,500 scholarship in 2010.


The following students received $1,500 scholarships:

  •  A senior at Edwardsville High School, Tanner Burge-Beckley plans to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology and major in computer science and engineering. He is sponsored by Byrne Software Technologies.
  • G.S. & S. sponsored Jenny Howard, a senior at Duchesne High School. Jenny plans to major in
  • biology /pre-veterinary medicine at Webster University.
  • Emily Huckie, sponsored by Hooke Construction, is a senior at DeSoto High School and plans to attend the University of Missouri- Columbia.
  • Annalies Pfaff, a junior at Missouri University of Science & Technology, is majoring in chemistry. Annalise also received $1,500 awards in 2008 and 2009, and is sponsored by Bussen Quarries.
  • Sponsored by Castle Contracting, Ashley Staats is a sophomore at Missouri State University where she studies physical therapy. Ashley also received a $1,500 scholarship in 2010.

Founded in 1966, SITE Improvement Association represents contractor and associate members in seven divisions -concrete, earthmoving, highway/bridge, landscaping, asphalt paving, sewer/utility and specialty. In addition to labor relations, the organization offers legislative action, education and safety programs, and social networking opportunities.
