The American Institute of Architects St. Louis Chapter awarded its Gold Honor Award to Louis Saur, FAIA in a ceremony at The Willows at Brooking Park.
The Gold Honor Award is the St. Louis Chapter's highest honor, presented on behalf of 750 members to an architect of high character with distinguished years of exemplary dedication and contributions to the the St. Louis Chapter, to the profession, and to architecture through achievements in design or throujgh professional or public service, or though education.
Luis Saur attended St. Louis City public schools and later earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Washington University in 1961 and a Master of Architecture degree in 1965.
Saur's career began as a project architect at Smith & Enzeroth and then became a partner in the firm of Hoffmann-Saur where he remained until he founded his firm, Louis R. Saur and Associates. He is currently associated with Team Four/Saur.
In 1967 he was awarded the prestigious Steedman Traveling Fellowship and in 1995 was elevated to the College of Fellows, a prestigious honor bestowed by the National AIA.
Lou Saur has been the architect of some of the most St. Louis' most well-respected buildings including the Maryland Walk Condos in Clayton, 4545 Lindell in the Central West End, the Metro Lofts. , Lofts at the Highlands, Kemper Home Gardening Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the buildings at St. Charles Community College. In addition, his work includes the Willows at Brooking Park, site of the award ceremony.
