The St. Louis chapter of National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is partnering with Missouri Women In Trades (MOWIT) to celebrate Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 2-8 with a variety of activities.
March 3, the Construction Careers Center (CCC) will host a speed networking forum for it's female students to learn more about the many careers in the construction industry from women working in those careers. After networking, guests will enjoy lunch while students model the Carhartt for Women's clothing line. St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay has been invited to attend the event.
March 4 and 5, NAWIC and MOWIT members will provide information about construction careers to the St. Louis Public Schools students at the SLPS annual career fair.
March 6 "Women in Construction will Work Together to Stomp Out Hunger" by participating in the seventh annual "St. Louis CANstruction" event at St. Louis Mills Mall.
March 8, tradeswomen will help junior girl scouts earn their Ms Fix Badge at the Carpenter's Joint Apprenticeship Training School. The girl scouts will also build a stool that will be donated to Habitat for Humanity St. Louis's Women Build.
The National Association of Women in Construction promotes Women in Construction Week nationally to raise awareness of the possibilities the construction industry holds for potential employees. The theme this year is "Building Pathways to Success." For 11 years, the focus of this week has been to spotlight women in the construction industry and for members to reach out and give back to their community.
"NAWIC members and chapters are either implementing or helping with the majority of successful programs aimed at enhancing the success of women in the construction industry," says Dede Hughes, NAWIC's EVP, "that is our core purpose. On this week our members attempt to raise awareness of all women in construction."
