Navy Awards Walton $25 Million LEED DB Barracks Project

The Department of the Navy-Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast has selected Walton Construction St. Louis as general contractor on the new $25.3 million Parris Island Barracks Complex in Parris Island, SC. Working with Walton Construction New Orleans and architect VOA Associates Inc., Walton St. Louis is scheduled to begin construction this month, with completion targeted for November 2010.

Walton will work to achieve Silver LEED certification on the South Carolina barracks complex as part of a concerted effort by the Navy to cut energy use and decrease consumption of oil and other fossil fuels.

Walton will incorporate environmentally friendly design, recyclable materials and energy efficient products into the construction of the Parris Island Barracks Complex. The project includes a three-story barracks, a headquarters training complex and a central mechanical plant. The Parris Island Barracks Complex will provide living quarters and a training facility for all Marine recruits east of the Mississippi River.

“We are excited to be selected as the design build contractor on this project for the NAVFAC,” said Tom Kaiman, vice president of operations for Walton St. Louis.  “Integrating sustainable energy systems and materials into the barracks and training facility will create a healthier and more energy efficient environment for our nation’s armed forces.”
