National ASA Honors Tom McDonnnell

The American Subcontractors Association (ASA) honored Tom McDonnell, president, George McDonnell & Sons, Inc., St. Louis, MO, with the Outstanding Service Award, at a March 5 ceremony held in conjunction with the ASA Business Forum and Convention 2010 in San Diego, CA.

McDonnell Tom personally spearheaded several fundraisers for the Midwest Council ASA and spent countless hours to make the fundraisers successful.
The first fundraiser Tom organized was one for the Humane Society. With the economy in a downturn, many pet owners had to surrender their pets to the Humane Society because theywere unable to care for them financially. Missouri also has many puppy mills that areoperated unlawfully and inhumanely. With Tom's direction, the chapter contributed more than $1,700 to the cause.

The second fundraiser Tom organized was Cardinals baseball "Tickets For the Troops" while soldiers were on leave during the July 4th holiday. Tom had organized a very successful fundraiser for the USO the previous year and asked for individually-wrapped food items and cash donations for the USO station in Lambert St. Louis Airport, which also raised $1,700.

He asked all members to contribute Cardinals baseball tickets for the week of June 26 - July2 so that the troops on leave could enjoy some fun with their families. Some members contributed season tickets, while some purchased tickets, food vouchers and parking. McDonnell personally collected many of the tickets and then hand-delivered them to the USO with a letter from the Midwest Council asking them to send a picture, if possible, while they were at the game to share with our members. McDonnell was able to collect 146 tickets worth $9,100.
