HOK is pleased to announced the addition of Mary Ostafi, AIA, LEED® AP as an Associate and Sustainable Design Specialist for the firm's sustainability consulting practice.
She is a recent graduate of the Blekinge Tekniska Högskola International University in Sweden with an M.S. in Strategic Leadership toward Sustainability.
A registered architect and interior designer, Ostafi was most recently with Flad Architects of Madison, Wisconsin, where she served as Architect and Lead Interior Designer for numerous projects. She brings to HOK more than nine years of design, architecture and planning experience for higher education, alternative energy research and development, performing arts, healthcare, retail and city government clients.
As part of her recent studies, Ostafi co-developed and facilitated workshops focused on sustainability planning utilizing The Natural Step Framework for the Dublin City Council Social Housing Department in Dublin, Ireland. Her thesis dissertation entailed collaboration with the Dublin City Council Planning Department to help the group leverage its city-wide development plan as a catalyst to move the community toward sustainability. Ostafi's passion and experience in such sustainable consulting efforts will be leveraged by the HOK St. Louis Sustainability Consulting practice to pursue similar work with local governments, higher education and existing building projects.
"Inspiration is contagious, and we need to inspire each other to collectively move forward - that is what sustainability is all about," stated Ostafi. "The people at HOK understand this and share my passion for sustainability, so when the opportunity arose to join their sustainability group, it was an easy decision."
Prior to earning her Master's degree, Mary received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Architecture from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. Mary is a LEED® Accredited
