KCI Construction awarded $13.9 Million Cooling Tower at MU

KCI Construction was recently awarded the Power Plant Cooling Tower Upgrade and 480V SUS Replacement project at University of Missouri in Columbia, with a total contract amount of $13.9 million.  The 18-month project, which is scheduled to begin immediately, involves site improvements and construction of a new concrete cooling tower basin to receive a five-cell fiberglass cooling tower, followed by demolition of four existing cooling towers off the roof of the power plant.  Concurrently with the cooling tower work is replacement of aging electrical systems inside the plant with a new 480-Volt secondary unit substation, switchgear and motor control systems.

KCI has worked successfully in the mid-Missouri region in recent years, with three other major projects currently under construction for the University of Missouri in Columbia totaling $80 million - Brady Commons Student Center expansion, Graham-Defoe Mid-Campus student housing, and LaFerre Hall addition.

KCI Construction is a general contractor with offices in both St. Louis and Lebanon, MO, and a 2007 volume of $89 million, and has recently begun an ownership transition from owner Doug Jones to Jon Schenk, Tom Huster and Brent Krueger.
