KAI Hires Three for Arlington Grove Project

KAI Design & Build recently hired Edward M. Jones of North St. Louis to the position of construction manager, Benjamin Statler of Florissant as an assistant construction manager and Walter E. Nichols of Spanish Lake as a project superintendent on the Arlington Grove Project.

KAI is serving as architect and general contractor on the project. Plans for the development include renovation of North St. Louis' historic Arlington School into 112 mixed-income apartments, plus construction of townhomes on the surrounding properties. The development also includes construction of a 29,000-square-foot building with 7,500 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor and 14 apartments on the second and third floors.

Jones has 25 years of industry experience and is responsible for managing the day to day activities of the project. Prior to KAI Design & Build, Jones worked as a Project Manager for Perini Building Company in Las Vegas, NV and Paric Corporation in St. Louis, MO. He also previously worked as a Project Manager/Resident Engineer for Kwame Building Group in St. Louis, MO and as a Project Manager/ Senior Project Engineer for Clayco Construction Company in St. Louis, MO.

Jones graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering. He is a member of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering Scholar (NACME), American Institute of Constructors (AIC), St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers (SLCC) and Associated General Contractors of St. Louis (AGC).

Statler was hired to assist the Construction Manager and Superintendant on the Arlington Grove Project. His responsibilities include tracking and submission of meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals and pay applications.

He has three years of industry experience, having previously worked as a Project Engineer for Perini Building Companies in Las Vegas, NV and as an Engineering Intern for Granger Contracting in Chesterfield, MO. Statler graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering.

As Project Superintendent, Nichols is responsible for the onsite day-to-day operations on the Arlington Grove project that include development and monitoring of construction schedules and budgets; coordination of construction activities for all compliance, permits, inspections and abatement issues; and monitoring the site for OSHA and company safety compliance.

Nichols has 31 years of industry experience, having previously worked as a project superintendent for Hunt Construction Company in Indianapolis, IN; Legacy Building Group in St. Louis, MO; and Wellington/CPM in St. Louis, MO.

He has an Associate's Degree in data processing from Forest Park Community College and is a Journeyman Carpenter. Nichols is certified in the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Supervisory Training Program and has received Trainer Certification through OSHA 500.
