S. M. Wilson & Co. has completed construction of a new 95,000 square foot, state-of-the-art fitness and recreational complex at the Jewish Community Center of St. Louis (JCC).
The new recreation complex represents Phase I of a 154,000 square foot, $32 million building program that also will include the partial demolition and renovation of the existing Carlyn H. Wohl building at the Creve Coeur location. The new fitness/wellness complex will be connected to the Wohl building. S. M. Wilson is providing construction management services for the entire building program.
The new recreation complex features a coffee/juice bar located in the main lobby, an indoor recreational and lap pool, new racquetball and squash courts, a fitness and training center, a gymnasium with an elevated running track, meeting spaces, a health club, professional locker rooms, family and youth locker rooms and a spa.
Renovations to the Wohl building will create additional space for community gatherings and cultural events. A black box theatre will be created for community theatre group performances, and a new performing arts center will provide an area for dance classes and cultural productions. New spaces also will be added for adult day services and an expanded early childhood center. Meeting rooms and a banquet facility will accommodate the needs of large company retreats or small group meetings. In addition, a new Beit Midrash (learning center), adult education programming and administrative offices also will be included in the project.
Construction is scheduled for completion in February 2010.
The architecture firm for the project is M+H Architects, Inc.
