Mayor Slay presents Horner & Shifrin proclamationHorner & Shifrin recently celebrated its Diamond Jubilee anniversary by hosting a reception for clients and employees. Honored guests included the Honorable Francis Slay, Mayor of the City of St. Louis; Richard Horner (son of co-founder W. W. Horner) and his wife, Eve; Daniel Horner (Richard Horner’s son); Jean Schneider and Walter Shifrin (co-founder Hymen Shifrin’s daughter and son); and Jeffrey Shifrin (grandson of Hymen Shifrin). Past leaders who attended included Leonard Kirberg, George Hasegawa, Cecil Browning, George Sallwasser, Jerry Breite, John Pollard, Charles Buescher, Don Lochmoeller and Vance Lischer, Jr.

Mayor Slay commemorated the milestone anniversary by presenting a proclamation declaring October 1, 2008, “Horner & Shifrin Day” in the City of St. Louis.

The Norman K. Probstein Golf Course & Clubhouse in Forest Park was chosen as the site for the festivities because of W. W. Horner’s work on the River des Peres Sewerage & Drainage Works project, which passes through Forest Park. The project thrust Mr. Horner into national prominence at the time of its completion in 1931 and eventually led to his founding of Horner & Shifrin with Hymen Shifrin.
In looking back on the company’s rich legacy, President William Clarke said, “We’ve been successful at doing good work for our clients because of our customer service focus. I am proudest, though, of our core values--we strive to adhere to them in all we do. We have also been fortunate to attract and retain exceptional people. We intend to carry on the same traditions of excellence established by our founders for the next 75 years. Our employee-owners share a commitment to apply our expertise to the highest standards, exercising our knowledge and skills for the benefit of our community, client and fellow employee.”

Horner & Shifrin, Inc., is a 100% employee-owned multidisciplinary firm of 62 professionals and technical support personnel with offices in St. Louis and O’Fallon, Illinois.
