Horner & Shifrin Certifies Saint Louis Levee

The City of St. Louis has selected Horner & Shifrin to provide levee certification services for the St. Louis Levee. The levee is 10.9 miles in length and has 6.75 miles of floodwalls, 39 closure structures and 28 pump stations.

To provide the groundwork for certification of the St. Louis Flood Protection System, Horner & Shifrin is conducting a thorough assessment of the condition of the system and a compilation of the information presently known about it. This first phase will require conducting technical reviews, investigating field conditions and locating instructions and records relating to the Mississippi River flood protections system and documentation of evidence showing conformance of the City's flood protections system. The firm is also spot-checking design issues and comparing them to current design criteria.

"This is a large and complex levee system. Our team of engineers is dedicated to a thorough review of the levee, and is mindful of the importance to the community,"Duane Siegfried, project manager, said.

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. is a 100% employee-owned multidisciplinary firm of 79 professionals and technical support personnel with offices in St. Louis and Springfield, MO and O'Fallon, IL.
