Gateway AAC is constructing what it calls "The Perfect Home" at 3736 South Broadway in the City of St. Louis' Marine Villa neigborhood.
The building envelope of the home, which is intended to be the first in a new development, is constructed of autoclaved aerated concrete panels. Jon Edwards of Gateway AAC said that concrete panels offer many "green" benefits, including energy efficiency, vapor permeability resulting in better air quality, low VOC emissions, and low long term maintenance.
The homes in the development will have a number of energy-efficient features including white reflective roofs, energy-efficient lighting, 95% energy-efficient hot water tank, and a geo-thermal heating and cooling system. They will pre-wired for solar panels, which are available as an add-on option. The parapet wall of the home is designed to disguise the solar panels.
