CVS Pharmacies has had discussions with St. Louis contractors and unions about building a significant number of stores here.
Currently two stores have been announced. One will be built at the southwest corner of Lemay Ferry Road and Lindbergh Boulevard and the other at the northeast corner of Gravois and Hampton avenues. CVS recently opened the only Downtown St. Louis pharmacy in the lobby of the AT&T building at 909 Chestnut St.
CVS officials have sought favorable terms from union leaders and contractors as a ramp-up to acquiring locations and beginning the push into St. Louis. Sources told CNR that representatives of CVS told them the nation's largest pharmacy chain indicated an intention to take on its major competitor, Walgreen's, head-on.
The 13,000-square-foot stores will have drive-thru windows and photo development services. Cedarwood Development of Akron, Ohio, is the developer.
