Clayco Honored for Two DB Projects

Clayco has been recognized by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Mid-America Region for innovative work on two projects. The King Edward Hotel and Residences project in Jackson, MS received an award of honor, while Washington University's Stephen F. & Camilla T. Brauer Hall was acknowledged with an award of merit.

The awards were presented during the 2010 Awards Luncheon & Regional Meeting in Overland Park, KS.

Prior to renovations, the King Edward building had been put on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was restored as 12-story-mixed-use Hilton Garden Inn with 186 room accommodations and a permanent resident with 64 one-and-two bedroom options.

Clayco and developer HRI Properties took special care in the rebuilding, following strict guidelines from the National Park Service and the Mississippi Historical Commission. Water penetration had destroyed most of the original structure and support systems, and numerous sectors showed fire and flood damage. Clayco used advanced techniques including construction hoist installation and exterior protections to restore the facility to its original grandeur.

Submitted for the award by Murphy Company, Washington University's Bauer Hall is an engineering facility on the institution's Danforth Campus. In 2010, Clayco completed construction on the building, which serves as the home for the dean of the engineering school, the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering as well as additional space for the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The 150,000-square-foot-structure was recently awarded LEED Gold certification by the United States Green Building Council.
