Churchill Apartments Win Landmarks Award

Winston Churchill Apartments received one of St. Louis Landmarks Association Most Enhanced Awards. The Award honors the most enhanced, best restorations and rehabs in the area from the past year.

Winston Churchill Apartments, located at Cabonne and Belt in the Upper West End, was renovated in the 80's and had fallen into disrepair and had 300 police calls a year going to the property, the worst property for the police department in the city.

Dublin Capital, Friedman Group, Ltd REALTORS and Housing & Community Solutions, Inc. working with Congressman Lacy Clay, the Mayor's office and Alderman Frank Williamson worked with various community groups and provided the debt, equity and a development plan and development team to create a $12 million gut rehab of this landmark building including additional secured parking. When the first developer could not proceed, Eagle point of Portland, MN stepped in to become the developer and completed and enhanced the project.

Changing the physical reality of the building enhanced the neighborhood where millions of dollars of additional development is going on: from single family for sale green homes to a large loft project being developed in the area. Enhancing this once grand old building has also removed an impediment to the community's ongoing development. This was a real team and community effort to make the
project work.
