The ASA Midwest Council kicked off its annual "Tickets for the Troops" campaign on April 18 with the presentation of Cardinal baseball tickets to U.S. Marines Corporal Gregory Plomedahl, based in St. Louis and Sergeant Andrew Portell, based in Bridgeton. The Marines and their families, along with other servicemen and women based throughout Missouri and southern Illinois, will be attending a Cardinal game the week of June 29-July 8, courtesy of ticket donations made by members of the ASA Midwest Council, Site Improvement Association and Mason Contractors Association, and from area general contractors and individuals.
The USO of Missouri distributes the donated tickets to servicemen and women at Whiteman AFB, Ft. Leonard Wood, Scott AFB, 3/24 Marines, Army Human Resources Command, Psych Ops Unit in Jefferson Barracks and active duty, reserve and guard units throughout the entire state of Missouri and the Illinois counties of Jersey, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair.
Since starting the program four years ago, more than 798 Cardinal baseball tickets have been donated, valued at more than $52,000. Pictures of the troops and their families enjoying the game are featured on ASA's web site.
"We started the campaign as a way to show our appreciation for all that the troops do to protect our country and our families; and we hope that they enjoy a special night out with their families as a thank you gift from the ASA," said Tom McDonnell, past president of the ASA Midwest Council and "Tickets for the Troops" program coordinator.
For more information about the program or to donate tickets, contact Tom McDonnell at 314-581-1681 or Susan Winkelmann, ASA Midwest Council Executive Director, at 314-845-0855.
