ACI Soliciting Papers on Uplifting Concrete in Museums, Churches, and Civic Architecture

ACI Committee 124, Concrete Aesthetics is requesting presentations on the use of exposed concrete in buildings and other structures that engage, elevate, and enhance the human spirit. The papers will become part of a technical session during the Fall 2008 ACI Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, Nov. 2-8, 2008.

The session is cosponsored by the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis and supported by AIA St. Louis

The exposed concrete may be of any type (cast-in-place, precast, post-tensioned, FRP, masonry, tilt-up, etc.) in any application in or on buildings, monuments, plazas, and other structures, especially those in or near St. Louis.

Presentations should address issues in design, detailing, or construction through case studies, research, or the development of systems or methods.

Presentations should address how the concrete is perceived and appreciated by users as well as how it was produced. Presentations having plentiful and engaging images will be favored.

Requirements: 1) Presentation title; 2) speaker name, title, organization, mailing address, telephone, and e-mail; and 3) one page abstract.

Deadlines: Abstract by March 1, 2008. Final presentation by August 15, 2008.
